Jim Scott
Sculptor
Sculpture is the way I bring my abstract ideas and thoughts to a physical form. My choice of wood or metal as a medium is dependent on what I’m trying to achieve in the finished piece of art. The sheet metal sculptures rely on the strength of the material to reconcile mass with gravity. The metal is more suited for geometric results, these sculptures are visually and physically balanced prior to mounting and exhibit a precarious stability and dynamism. Wood has much different properties which lend the sculptures to become more organic forms in the finished piece. I’m not bound to one particular medium when starting a sculptural project.
